Join acclaimed Urban Naturalist Gabriel Willow to explore Governors Island, an island in NY Harbor only 5 minutes by ferry from Lower Manhattan.
Learn how to identify winter birds by sight and sound, and learn more about their ecology and behavior.
NYC is one of the premiere birding destinations in the world, and winter in NYC attracts more birds than in the summer months! Our harbor is teeming with loons, grebes, ducks, geese, and other waterbirds, and wintry landscapes can host finches, owls, sparrows, and other overwintering landbirds.
Join Gabriel on an easy stroll through the winter landscapes of Governors Island to discover what birds call it home in the colder months. Group limited to 15 people. Bring binoculars if you have them and wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
Arrive at least 15 minutes early to ensure you don't miss the ferry. Ferry is free before 11am.
Gabriel Willow leads programs for the NYC Bird Alliance, Audubon Society, NY Botanical Garden and other organizations and has been featured in the NY Times, Time Out NY, and more.
